When I was a young girl I loved memorizing scripture in Awanas- it was my life source. It truly was what equipped me to understand my life and learn how to filter my world through the word of God.
Memorizing scriptures has been such a source of power and strength for me and a foundation I can and I will ALWAYS use, for myself, mentoring others and praying the promises of God.
When my husband and I were first married we were mentored by a couple from the Navigators ministry and once again I fell in love with memorizing scriptures- it has truly been so rewarding through all the seasons of my life.
What
When you know the word and the application of it, you are equipped to fight all battles, the word of God is the SWORD!
This is how Jesus fought his tempter……after 40 days of fasting, when he was weakest in physical strength, he was most powerful in the spiritual power of the word of God!
By understanding and knowing its application we have authority, magnitude and depth to overcome and take captive every thought to the obedience of HIS WORD!
How
- First I read it over and over until I can picture it in my mind and break into a segment of 3 parts
- Once I can hear the 3 segments, I memorize 1 section at at a time by saying it out loud until I can say it without needing to see it.
- Once I can say all 3 segments together, I repeat it 3 times, write it on a notecard and read, study, and say it daily.
- I challenge myself to apply and use it on a whim and work it into my life, my kids or others around me.
I admonish you to get in the word and memorize a verse a day…. A promise you need for the season you are in…
Let it become your prayer, promise and purpose through the day.
When
When I was a nursing mom I would say scriptures out loud and memorize prayers such as Col 1:9, Ephesians 1:16-20, Psalm 23 and more. Today, my life is on the run so in the car, during family devotions and in the morning while I am doing my hair, I declare the word of God over my day, family and career!
Why
This is our power.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God! – Eph 6:17
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves, do what it says. Anyone who listen to the word but does not do what it says is the like – James 1:22

And I pray that you being ROOTED and established in love, may have power, together will all the saints to grasp how wide and long, and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
